June 2021 Educator of the Month
Michelle Perez was nominated by Cathy Ellerbee. She has been an educator for 8 years. She absolutely LOVEs her job.
“The students bring such energy and excitement into the classroom as we explore and discover together. There is no better feeling than watching them find their “ah ha” moments and even teach me a thing or two. I began my teaching career in Nevada in 2012. I continued my career when I moved to California in 2013. While my knowledge and love for teaching grew, I noticed the struggle new teachers and even veteran teachers go through. I knew I could help more children by helping teachers to improve their lessons, instruction, and have vital support in order to make it past the treacherous 5-year mark. My supportive administrators recognized my passion for helping new teachers and recommended me to be the Induction Support Provider. I continued mentoring as a Cooperating Teacher for Grand Canyon University and Sac State Student Teachers. Eventually, I was asked to help spread my knowledge and utilize my skill set to lead trainings on classroom management, routines, procedures, Google Classroom, and small groups at my school site for all K-8 teachers. This past summer, I was recommended for and led a training on how to be a good mentor for Sac City and San Juan Unified School District teachers through Sac State’s STEM Power Program. Just this year, my leadership skills were truly recognized as I was promoted to Elementary Vice Principal at my current school site, Sol Aureus College Prep. I am extremely excited to collaborate with and help teachers grow as educators next school year.”
